RAM is the main memory of a device where programs and informational data are stored . In Acronym Dictionary, the acronym RAM means “Random Access Memory” translated into Spanish is “Random Access Memory”. The RAM is known as volatile memory which means that the data is not saved permanently, that is why, when a source of energy in the device ceases to exist, the information is lost. Also, RAM can be rewritten and read constantly.

Categories

The RAM modules, known as RAM memory are members of the hardware that contains integrated circuits that are attached to the printed circuit, these modules are installed on the motherboard of a computer. RAM memories are part of computers, video game consoles, mobile phones, tablets, among other electronic devices.

There are 2 basic types of RAM; Dynamic RAM (DRAM) and static RAM (SRAM), both use different technologies to store data. Dynamic RAM (DRAM) needs to be refreshed 100 times per second, while static RAM (SRAM) does not need to be refreshed so frequently which makes it faster but also more expensive than dynamic RAM.

RAM types

DDR known as SDRAM is a type of dynamic RAM that is almost 20% faster than EDO RAM. This memory interlaces two or more internal memory arrays so that while accessing an array, the next one is preparing to access, this memory allows you to read and write data at 2 times the speed buz. DDR2 are improvements in DDR memory that allows input-output buffers to operate at twice the core frequency, allowing 4 transfers to be made during each clock cycle. A real 200 MHZ DDR memory delivered 400 MHZ nominal, the DDR2 with those same 200 MHZ delivers 800 MHZ NOMINALS.

DDR3 can be 2 times faster than DRR2 memory, DDR3 could theoretically transfer data at an effective clock rate of 800-2600 MHZ, compared to the DDR2 range of 400-1200MHZ or 200-533MHZ of DDR2.

Cache memory or RAM cache a cache is a special high-speed storage system, it can be both a reserved area of ​​main memory and a separate high-speed storage device. A cache is a part of high-speed static RAM (SRAM) rather than the slow and cheap dynamic RAM (DRAM) used as the main memory. The cache is effective because the programs access the same data and instructions over and over again. Within each of these memories there can be different types of storage capacity, that is, they can have a capacity of 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB.

What is RAM memory for?

The RAM memory serves to improve the response speed at the time of using a program on the computer since the information that said program needs to make it work is stored in the RAM memory, in this way, when executing the program it is transferred to the processor All instructions that need to be executed by performing different data transmissions as required, consequently, the RAM and the processor interact with each other by exchanging the requested data.

The RAM stores this information and sends the processor the data that needs to be processed, therefore, as long as the memory has a higher transmission speed and greater storage capacity, the user can use more programs at the same time and faster.
