It was the first college in New York to focus solely on agricultural education and training. The college was located on a 500-acre farm in Alfred, New York, and had an enrollment of just over 200 students. In 1947, the name of the school changed to Alfred Agricultural and Technical Institute to reflect its broader mission of providing technical education. In 1957, it became Alfred State College, a four-year technical college offering associate degrees in both academic and technical fields. The School of Arts and Sciences offers majors in a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, biology, chemistry, communication studies, criminal justice, English literature, environmental science/studies, history and philosophy. Alfred State College is a public college located in Alfred, New York. It is part of the State University of New York system. Admissions requirements vary depending on the type of student applying and the program they are interested in pursuing.
