According to abbreviationfinder, Alfred State College is commonly known as ASC. Alfred State College was founded in 1908 as the New York State School of Agriculture. It was the first college in New York to focus solely on agricultural education and training. The college was located on a 500-acre farm in Alfred, New York, and had an enrollment of just over 200 students. In 1947, the name of the school changed to Alfred Agricultural and Technical Institute to reflect its broader mission of providing technical education. In 1957, it became Alfred State College, a four-year technical college offering associate degrees in both academic and technical fields. In 1968, the college began offering bachelor’s degrees in several fields including engineering technology, business management, nursing and criminal justice. Today, Alfred State College is home to more than 5,000 students from 45 U.S. states and 30 countries around the world. It offers more than 70 undergraduate degree programs with concentrations in architectural technology, automotive technology, business administration/management studies and criminal justice studies among many other areas of study. The college also offers numerous graduate degree programs including master’s degrees in nursing, engineering technology management and applied engineering technology as well as doctorates in educational leadership and advanced manufacturing systems integration.

Degrees Offered and Departments

Alfred State College provides a wide range of academic programs. The college is organized into four main schools; the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Applied Technology, the School of Business and Management, and the School of Health Sciences.

The School of Arts and Sciences offers majors in a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, biology, chemistry, communication studies, criminal justice, English literature, environmental science/studies, history and philosophy. In addition to these majors they also offer minors in art history, Asian studies, computer science and mathematics. The school also has several pre-professional programs such as pre-law or pre-medicine.

The School of Applied Technology offers associate degrees in fields such as automotive technology; construction management; electrical technology; HVAC/R technology; machine tool technology; masonry technology; mechatronics engineering technology; welding engineering technology; medical assistant studies; nursing (BSN); occupational therapy assistant (OTA); physical therapist assistant (PTA); practical nursing (PN); radiological sciences (X-ray); respiratory care therapy (RRT).

The School of Business & Management provides majors in accounting/finance/economics as well as business administration with concentrations in marketing management or sport management. They also offer minors in sport management or business analytics.

Finally the School of Health Sciences offers majors in dental hygiene (BS), dietetics (BS), health services administration (BS), medical laboratory technician (AS) occupational therapy assistant(OTA), physical therapist assistant(PTA), radiologic sciences(X-Ray) , respiratory care therapy(RRT). In addition to these degree options they offer certificates for medical coding specialist and medical laboratory technician trainee.

Admissions Requirements

Alfred State College is a public college located in Alfred, New York. It is part of the State University of New York system. Admissions requirements vary depending on the type of student applying and the program they are interested in pursuing. For freshman applicants, the college requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum GPA of 2.0. Additionally, applicants must submit an official transcript, SAT/ACT scores, and two letters of recommendation from teachers or guidance counselors. Transfer students must provide official transcripts from all colleges attended, with a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for acceptance into the college. Transfer students who have completed fewer than 24 credits may also be required to submit standardized test scores in order to be considered for admission to Alfred State College. All international students must meet English language proficiency requirements and submit additional documents such as proof of financial support and immunization records prior to enrollment at Alfred State College.
